Further updates to the debugging & development:
I succeeded in building a universal binary, that was quite easy actually, as soon as I had two single-binary versions of the oxt (one 32-bit and one 64-bit).
Now, the universal binary behaves similar to the 64-bit version alone, but with a twist:
In addition to starting your 64-bit LO from the command line, one can also start a 32-bit version of LO if you happen to have one installed. That is, if you have LO 4.0 or 4.1 (both only available as 32-bit apps) installed, you can start them, install the OXT, see that it works (there are no known issues with the 32-bit builds), then quit that old LO, __and start your 64-bit LO 4.2+__. Now LO-voikko should work and behave exactly as expected.
This new variant requires that you have two LO versions installed - the old one just to trigger the necessary first kick of LO-voikko - but should otherwise be easier for beta testers to get than the command line hack.
All in all: we __almost__ have a working universal binary/64-bit version of the LO-voikko OXT for Mac. So close - and still …
